It is with deep sorrow and much love that our family announces that Joseph Thomas Cochran, age 80, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023. “JT” was born on February 14, 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia; son of the late William Joseph, Jr. and June Reagan Cochran. He was the second of three children. JT was a proud resident of Georgia his entire life and following high school, honorably served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service he became a Detective in the Atlanta Police Department where he served for 49 years. JT was passionate about riding his motorcycle and took many cross-country trips with friends. As an avid reader he would sometimes finish books in as little as two or three days. He was devoted to his grandchildren and enjoyed spending his time on excursions and vacations with them.
JT is survived by his wife, Alicia Powell; their son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Lauren; his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Penny; his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Virginia, from his former wife, Sherrell Faye; his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his sister, Ann Dennis; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William Joseph, III (Billy Joe). A private Celebration of Life service will be held for family and friends on February 19, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia to reminisce and honor the life of Joseph Thomas Cochran.
