John Wesley Fuller, Jr., age 94, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was born October 26, 1928 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. John proudly served his country as a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, as well as the Navy Reserves, having joined at the age of 17. After his time in the Navy, he married and started his family. Family meant the world to him and he was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a long career with Southern Railway retiring after more than 30 years. A man of many interests and talents, John was a member of the Sweetwater Camera Club, the Douglas County Genealogy, and a member of the Safari Club, having made two hunting trips to Africa and one to Russia. He also was a ham radio operator, a licensed private pilot and he had a sailing license. John was known for his artisan talent in creating custom knives. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 68 years, Katherine (Crowe) Fuller; his father, John W. Fuller, Sr.; mother, Hazel Mae (Belcher) Fuller Lailer; son, John Wesley Fuller, III; infant daughter, Elizabeth Fuller; brothers, Raymond Lailer and Bobby Fuller; sister, Lillian Lailer Benner.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Brenda G. Fuller and Linda G. Fuller Black (Dan); brother, Russell Lailer; five grandchildren, Marty Campbell, Sean M. Black, Elizabeth M. Shadix, Joshua A. Black and Danielle Black Lark; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Black, Evan Shadix, Andrew Shadix, Trevor Shadix, Gavin Lark, Adalyn Lark, Hunter Shadix and Troy W. Aaron-Black, Jessica Campbell Hanna, great great granddaughter, Maggie Grace Hanna; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and many friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Rosehaven Chapel. John will be laid to rest Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixon, Tennessee.
