Joan Marie (Harper) Goch, age 87, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021. She was born November 11, 1933 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. While in high school, Joan worked in drafting and insurance sales. She was quick witted, sharp minded with a wonderful sense of humor. An exceptionally talented artist, Joan enjoyed painting and sketching. A connoisseur of food, she took great pleasure in eating and she loved to travel, especially to the beach. An annual trip to St. George Island, Florida was always on Joan’s calendar. Joan was adopted as a baby. She had recently been given a DNA kit from Ancestry.com giving her the opportunity to research her family history. She worked as a caregiver in eldercare for many years. Joan was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John William “Bill” and Nellie (Raines) Harper; and a son, John Berenyi.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Bob Berenyi (Melanie) of Douglasville, Georgia and Frank Berenyi (Sirenna) of Doylestown, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Jan Berenyi of Doylestown, Ohio; grandchildren, Brandy Fosdick (Ron), Heather Berenyi, Jason Berenyi (Renee), Casey Berenyi (Brooke) and Joey Jarvis; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Christian, Serenity, Arian, Luna, Aiden, Isabella “Bella”, Carter and Brielle; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 2515 Pope Road, Douglasville, Georgia 30135 on Sunday, April 11, 2021 from 10:30am to 12:00pm with Pastor Allen Young officiating. The family will plan a scattering in Florida following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Joan Marie Goch to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Checks may be mailed to the church address at 2515 Pope Road, Douglasville, GA 30135.
