Mr. James Winford “J.W.” White, age 94, of Whitesburg, Georgia passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019. A native of Douglas County, Mr. White was born on Highway 5 on February 21, 1925. He graduated from Douglas County High School and enlisted in the Army when he was 18. He served his country in the U.S. Army 2nd Division, 38th Infantry, landing on Normandy Beach on D-Day. He retired from Macy’s with 35 years of service, then worked as a Supervisor for the City of Carrollton. Mr. White served as a Choir Director for Ebenezer Baptist Church, Pray’s Mill Baptist Church, Mars Hill Baptist Church in Carroll County, Whitesburg Baptist Church, First Church of the Nazarene, and Community Baptist Church. He was proud of his 40 acre farm in which he loved to work. He was lovingly known as “Wint” by his family and his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Stanley White; and his parents, Ralph and Elma (Anderson) White.
Mr. White is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Frances White of Whitesburg, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Cher White of Whitesburg, Georgia; sister, Beverly Simpson of Douglasville, Georgia; three grandchildren, Janice Bolitho of Whitesburg, Georgia, Danny White of Henry County, and Darrell White of Nashville, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be Monday, September 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Rosehaven Chapel with Dr. Steven Callis and Reverend Kerry Cooke officiating. Interment will follow at Ebernezer Baptist Church Cemetery, 7305 Highway 166, Douglasville, Georgia 30135.
