Mr. James Robert Watson, age 88, of Douglasville, GA passed away Friday, October 31, 2014. He was born May 18, 1926 in Mecklinburg County, NC. Mr. Watson was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during WWII. He was a co-owner in the family-owned business, Hatchery Planning, Inc. (c.1962), which he maintained and operated until his retirement in 1980. He was an excellent carpenter and enjoyed making wooden Christmas decorations. He loved spending time with his family, tending his vegetable garden, working in his yard and growing flowers.
Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Furman C. and Mattie Hopkins Watson; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Judy Lynn Watson; brothers, Charles Watson and Elbert Watson; sisters, Edith Melton and Clelia Turner; and sister-in-law, Ann Watson.
He is survived by his wife, Fredonia Watson; daughter, Rita Yates and husband Robert; brothers, Douglas Watson and wife Evelyn, Furman Watson, Jr., Herman Watson and wife Gladys; sisters, Ruby Jackson and husband Ed, Sarah Cochrane and husband Paul; grandchildren, Daniel Watson, Dixie Benson and husband Kent; great-grandchildren, Robert Benson and Rebecca Benson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be Monday, November 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Ephesus Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. Mr. Watson will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Entombment will follow at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
