Mr. Hugh Alton Horton, Sr., age 89, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020. He was born on March 27, 1930 in Phenix City, AL. Hugh was a loving father and devoted husband. He played golf for a large part of his life and was a business man through and through. He was the owner of Wilkes Finance for over 40 years. He attended the University of Alabama where he marched in the Million Dollar Band. Hugh was able to play both the saxophone and the clarinet. In addition to his family, Hugh also loved the Lord. He was a member of Central Baptist Church for over 30 years and served as Deacon there. At one time, he was the President of GILA Association and a member of Gideon – where he went around placing bibles in the rooms of hotels and other businesses.
Preceding him in death are his wife of 68 years, Jean McCray Horton; his parents, Albert and Eunice Horton; his granddaughter, Rebecca Horton; and multiple relatives.
Hugh is survived by his children, Deborah Horton, Al (Sally) Horton, Jr., and Renee (Garry) Costner; his grandchildren, Misty (Thomas) Brown, Chris (Christy) Horton, Kimberly (Scott) Homan, Kevin (Alicia) Costner, Matthew Costner, and Brock (Teresa) Sale; his great-grandchildren, Dylan (Tori) Brown, Carly (Kyle) O’Shields, Katelyn Homan, Grace Homan, Bennett Homan, Ryan Homan, Logan Horton, Gage Horton, Zoey Horton, Eli Costner, Micah Costner, and Abigail Sale; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other loved ones, family, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 24th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 25th at 11:00 am at Central Baptist Church, 5811 Central Church Rd, Douglasville, GA, 30135. A graveside service will follow at Central Baptist Memorial Garden. After the graveside, a meal will be provided for family and friends at the church.
