Freddie O’Neal Morris, age 88, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Friday, October 30, 2020. Freddie was born May 15, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia. She loved gardening, playing bridge, raising blueberries and figs. Freddie enjoyed cooking, having attended the Julia Childs Cooking School. She was an avid Braves fan and was Methodist by faith. Back in the day, Freddie was an avid golfer and aced the game with her hole-in-one at West Pines Golf Club. In the 70s, Freddie won a 25-mile race, riding Leslie’s horse, against Claude Abercrombie – she had only ridden a handful of times before the race. Later, in her late 70s, Freddie went on a two-hour trail ride with Leslie and Christopher in Wyoming. Family meant the world to Freddie and in 1992 donated a kidney to her brother, Lamar Wright, to help save his life. Many years ago, Freddie drove a school bus until one of the students set off an M-80 under her seat. She quit, saying that she thought she had been shot! At the Legacy where she lived, she was called “Ready Freddie” and that seemed to just suit her perfectly.
Preceding her in death were her husband, M. J. Morris; Fred and Bessie (Gray) Wright; and a son, Terry O’Neal.
She is survived by a daughter, Leslie Olsen (Bobby Laird); and two grandchildren, Andrew Olsen (Kristin) and Christopher Olsen.
A Gathering of Remembrance is planned for Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Rosehaven Memorial Park.
