Mrs. Giles was born in Douglasville, Georgia on February 14, 1923, the daughter of the late S. Tallie Daniell and the late Emma Bell Webb Daniell.
She was the tenth of eleven children and was a lifelong resident of Douglas County. In 1941, she graduated from Douglas County High School and began her teaching career at Yeager School in the 1940’s. She graduated from West Georgia College in 1965 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree after which her career in education took off. From 1960 to 1971, she taught at Bill Arp Elementary, from 1971 to 1983, Winston Elementary and from 1983 to 1988, Dorsett Shoals Elementary, at which time she retired. Many of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews have followed her career path in education.
Mrs. Giles was a longtime active member of Prays Mill Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU and was a participant in the mission work of the church. After her retirement she was able to enjoy traveling through America and Europe, spent time reading, gardening, and loved her animals. She had several cats and her first beloved dog was named Toby. Time spent in the kitchen was always fun for her as well. She was a great cook and yeast rolls were her specialty.
According to many standards, her lifestyle was quiet after her husband Don passed away. She gained a lot of pleasure and happiness from dance recitals, concerts, and other performances of her grandchildren. Her philosophy on life was to keep on living, learning, and enjoying family and friends. She would like to be remembered as a person who is fair to others, cares for others, a loving, caring parent, and grandmother. Also a good citizen, neighbor and friend.
She is survived by her children Carole Driskell, Elaine (Jerry) Folds, Dianne Williams, Danny (Roxi) Giles, and David Giles; eleven grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Giles is preceded in death by her husband of fifty one years, Robert Donzal Giles, son-in-law, Dan Driskell, and her siblings, Irene Daniell Price, Hershel Daniell, Queenie Bell Daniell Bryant, Milton Daniell, Nettie Daniell Fouts, Howard Daniell, Amanda Daniell Bryant, Lawrence Daniell, Louis Daniell, and Sarah Daniell Bryant.
