Donald L. Nauman passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2016, in Douglasville, GA. Don was born the second of nine children March 22, 1942 in Streator, IL to Leroy and Helen Nauman of Henry, IL. He grew up in Henry and Pekin, IL. In 1959, he won First Place in the Illinois State Science Fair for a working robot he built out of tin cans and erector set motors. In 1966, he joined the U.S. Army. He went on to be commissioned an Airborne Artillery Officer and served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. While in Vietnam he rose to the rank of Captain and was awarded the Air Medal and four Bronze Stars with the “V” for valor.
In 1968, Don married Norma L. Goldsmith of Louisville, KY. To this union were born three children, Mindy and John Elliott, Matthew and Margo Nauman, and Jody and Brad Wilson. The light of his life were his nine grandchildren, Emma and Jace Murray; Shelby, Sophia and Anna Elliott; Gracie, Erin and Andy Nauman; and Lili and Sam Wilson.
During their almost 48 years of marriage, Don and Norma lived in Wiesbaden Germany, Henry IL and Douglasville GA. Don spent over 30 years working in the printing industry. He was a “jack of all trades” who could build or repair almost anything. His leisure time was spent in woodworking and metalworking. Most recently he had been building model R/C airplanes.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Tom, Dave and Chris Nauman; two sisters, Jean Redman and Ann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mr. Nauman to Bill Arp Elementary STEM Program, 6550 Alexander Parkway, Douglasville, GA 30135.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM in the Rosehaven Chapel.
