She was born in Clem, Georgia on November 7, 1944, the daughter of the late Joe McCarty and Reba Cook McCarty. Family and grandchildren were her life and she loved spending time with them. Dana had a special ministry of visiting shut-ins in the nursing homes. She and her sister also started a widowed persons ministry called the Mourning Glories. She was a charter member of New Genesis Baptist Church. After a long career with the Douglas County School System, Dana retired from the Facilities Maintenance Department. After retirement, she served as a volunteer usher at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Jennifer Houston, Paul and Kim Houston; grandchildren, Ashtyn Rush, Jaret Houston and fiancé, Rachel Leatherwood, and Emma Houston; great grandchildren, David Rush and Maggie Rush; nieces and nephews, Randy Burt and Patty, Cindy Peters and Floyd, Marty Martin and Amy, Michael McDuffie, Kelly Tucker and Greg, Amy Fisher, Jeff Fisher, several great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Louise McDuffie; brother-in-law, Rick Fisher and Linda; aunt, Dorothy Houston and her daughter Nancy Gorduek.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-five years, Chuck Houston; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Willard Burt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Gwendolyn Houston; sister-in-law, Carolyn Houston Fisher; and brother-in-law, Dennis McDuffie.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral home on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Sam Braswell and Reverend Ikey Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs, Georgia.
