Cordelia “Dee” Eason Sheppard, 80 years young, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025. She was born in LA (that’s lower Alabama if you didn’t know). She worked full time to put herself through college at Jacksonville State University, beginning a family legacy with a daughter and a grandson also attending. Dee taught in Alabama, Colorado, and Virginia before settling in Georgia to finish her teaching career of 32 years at Chestnut Log Middle School.
Deli was an enthusiastic collector of clocks and an unintentional collector of salt and pepper shakers.
Granny loved spending time with her family, painting, reading, and teaching her family all the ways she could beat them at Chinese Checkers and bowling. She was a flower enthusiast and purchased great quantities of ice cream for the grandchildren.
Mom would not have considered herself a writer but she was known to write poems in cards and helped many children write research papers. One thing she mentioned overlooking in writing her beloved Joe’s obituary was that he spent 44 years working for the federal government. (It has not been disproven that he did not work for the FBI.)*
Preceding her in death were her husband of 54 years, Joseph; her parents, Dalton and Vida Eason; and siblings Myrna, Margaret, and Donald.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved girls, Amanda Smith (Nick), and Kriste Millington (Douglas); seven grandchildren, Aerick, Kailin, Nicole, Alex, Grayson, Maleigh, and Ansley; and three great grandchildren, Sora, Mason, and Violet; her dear siblings John (Gayle), Doris (Dave), and other loved ones stretching across the country.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00pm in the Rosehaven Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you spend time outdoors and donate to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
*Sorry, Mom. We heeded your words that laughter is the best medicine to get this written. Love you, The Girls.
Whitley Garner at Rosehaven is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements of Mrs. Cordelia Eason Sheppard.
