Colleen Marie (Rand) Karanovich, of Lithia Springs, GA, passed away surrounded by the love of her family and God’s glory. She was born on July 4, 1959 in Queens, NY to Frances “Fran” Zager Rand and Harvey Thad Rand. She and her family would later move to the “Log Cabin on Dog River.” She would go onto graduate from Douglas County High School in 1977 and The Georgia Baptist Hospital’s School of Nursing (Atlanta, GA) in 1980. While there and throughout her career, she developed a love for continuing education of her fellow nurses and quality patient care. She became a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) in 1997. She would go onto serve 40+ years across Atlanta’s most prominent healthcare systems and physician practices. In recognition of her distinguished career, she was recently inducted to the Hall of Honor for Excellence in Clinical Nursing Practice at Mercer University.
Colleen is survived by her loving and adoring husband of 39 years, Alan, and sons Evan Karanovich of Atlanta and Christopher Ryan Karanovich, her mother Fran Rand of Douglasville, Sherri and Doug Rand of Carrollton, Debra Rand of Atlanta, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends at the Whitley-Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home (Douglasville, GA) on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1:00 pm at St. Theresa Catholic Church with a private inurnment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family and many supporters seek to inspire the next generation of nurses with the “Colleen Rand Karanovich Endowed Scholarship” at Mercer University’s Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.
