Mr. Charles Richard Harmon, Sr., age 82, of Winston, GA passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016. He was born October 6, 1934 in Lexington, SC. Mr. Harmon retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service. He enjoyed going to church and church activities, especially his Sunday School class. Charles loved the outdoors, whether camping, fishing, gardening or growing things. Printing stories or jokes and passing them out to friends and family was a great joy to him. Charles was, first and foremost, a very loving and caring husband, father and brother.
Preceding him death is his first wife, Dorothy J. Harmon; parents Archie and Mattie Harmon; sister Maggie Scott; granddaughter Emily Bonds and niece Carrie Scott.
He is survived by his wife Opal Harmon; sons and step-son Charles Harmon, Jr, John (Luz) Harmon and Keith Head; daughter and step-daughters Angela Harmon, Stacie Head, Julie Bonds and Diana Grogan; brothers LG Harmon and Archie Harmon, Jr.; sisters Rebecca Fields and Jeanette Cummings; grandchildren John Harmon and Tomia Harmon as well as several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 5 until 8 o’clock pm. He will lie-in-state on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Ephesus Baptist Church, 8445 Ephesus Church Road, Winston, GA from 12 until 1 o’clock pm. A funeral service will follow at 1 o’clock pm with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. Interment will be held in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
