Sandy was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 9, 1943 the daughter of the late Rev. James E. Hansard, Sr. and the late Novealine Elizabeth Vaughn. Through the years she had worked at the USPS, and the Board of Education, driving the school bus for special needs children. She had also worked in the lunchroom where she was able to spend time with many of her special friends. Sandy was the oldest of five siblings raised by an evangelist preacher and to know her was to love her. She was a woman of faith, had attended Prays Mill Baptist Church and also Central Baptist Church. While at Prays Mill, she was very active in Sunday School Class with Don Ship and she enjoyed reading Christian books and listening to gospel music. Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her family came first and she spent quality time taking care of her grandchildren. She looked forward to spending time with her friends and loved traveling with her sister.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joey Keith Smith (Rhonda); daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Turner (Jonathan); brother and sister-in-law, James E. Hansard, Jr. (Cathy); sister, Linda Hodge; grandchildren, Trent Mulkey, Sydney Barclay (Seth), Trevor Mulkey, Elizabeth Smith and Jonathan K. Turner; great grandson, Stone Barclay.
In addition to her parents, Sandy is preceded in death by her husband of sixteen years, Billy Joe Smith; brother, Kenneth Hansard, sister, Latrelle Wooten and grandson, Tyler Keith Smith.
The family will receive friends at Whitley Garner at Rosehaven Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Gwinnett Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
