Andrea Marlene Armstrong

Andrea Marlene Armstrong, 71, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on May 9th, 2024. She was born on November 8th, 1952 in Washington Heights, NY. Daughter to Dr. Edwin Barclay and Florence Barclay, Andrea grew up with her siblings Edwin Barclay, Arthur Barclay, and Linda Ware who preceded her in death. The family was raised in South Ozone Park, Queens, a cozy suburb near Manhattan. Andrea thrived in this environment and in 1966 she was admitted into LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, a school recognized worldwide for nurturing and inspiring the next generation of artists.

During her time at LaGuardia Andrea’s passion for creativity through music thrived. While there, she trained as a classical musician, mastering both the violin and the piano. After graduating in 1970, Andrea carried her passion for music well into her later life; every afternoon, she would sit at her piano in her living room and play complicated pieces by Bach, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. She also frequently gave piano lessons to her nephews, nieces, and to anyone else interested in learning.

In 1978, Andrea married her husband, Kenneth Armstrong and the newlyweds decided to relocate to the quaint town of Spring Valley, located in upstate NY. In Spring Valley Andrea found a new passion in being an advocate for individuals with mental disabilities. She secured a job with New York State assisting the mentally disabled and later decided to use her expertise to open up her own state-approved home daycare center. Andrea ran an extremely organized daycare and her students thrived under her care. Children were known for being academically advanced by the time they transitioned from her daycare into kindergarten.

Andrea Armstrong is remembered as a caring, loving, sweet, and kind woman who was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to all. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Armstrong Sr., and her children, Felicia Armstrong, Kenneth Armstrong Jr., and Kiah Armstrong, her brother Edwin Barclay Jr., her grandchildren Cyrus and Malachi Evans, her great-grandchild Messiah and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins etc.
