Alfred Murray Freeman

Mr. Murray Freeman, age 85, of Winston, GA, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016. He was born August 25, 1931 in Monticello, AR. Preceding him in death are his parents, Roy and Elizabeth Freeman, as well as sister Fredna Freeman. He was a member of Latham Lodge in Austell, GA.

The Freeman family moved to Atlanta in 1944 and Murray attended West Fulton High School. Murray met the love of his life, Barbara Kincaid, at the Roller Drome Skating Rink and they were married on January 19, 1951. He served in the United State Marine Corp.

After leaving the service, Murray and his family settled in Austell, GA. His career path eventually led him to the commercial HVAC industry. His expertise made him a major factor in the Atlanta HVAC community. He also shared his skills with many young apprentices while he spent approximately 10 years as a welding instructor at Atlanta Tech. Murray finished his career at R.F. Knox Company with his last assignment being to serve as the Project Manager for the HVAC portion of a Grady Hospital renovation.

Always a lover of country and bluegrass music, Murray started playing guitar and singing with his own band in the mid 1960’s. Until the time of his death, Murray was a revered representative of the Southeastern Bluegrass Music Community. His most cherished joy came from all the years that he was able to play and perform with his daughter, Connie. Murray was a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame.

After retiring in 1995, Murray and Barbara began their travel adventures, driving cross country several times each year and eventually visiting almost all 50 states. In addition, to music, Murray always loved classic cars and anything automotive and his retirement years were spent restoring and/or just appreciating the classic cars that he owned.

Murray was a positive influence and spirit to all who knew him and in every facet of his life. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Freeman; daughter and son-in-law, Connie Freeman Morris Partridge and Jeff Partridge; as well as sister, Royce Adams; and niece and husband, Carol and Mike Morgan.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5 until 8 o’clock and Friday, December 30, 2016 from 11 until 1 o’clock. A funeral service will follow at 1 o’clock with Pastor David York officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Meadows in Dallas, GA.
