Homer Thurman Hart, a resident of Auburn and a former resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the age of 99. Known to friends as Homer T., Mr. Hart was a resident at Camellia Place in Auburn.
He was born May 23, 1913, in Conecuh County, Alabama, to Willie Pickens and William C. Hart. After graduation from high school in Evergreen, Alabama, Homer T. was employed by The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company for more than 44 years. He served 47 months active duty with the U.S. Army Engineers and 6 years with the Army Reserves. Mr. Hart was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church for more than 91 years.
Homer T. was preceded in death by both parents, his beloved wife of more than 52 years, Sara Webster Hart, and his four siblings – Doris Hart Lowe, Ila Mae Hart Sawyer, Beth Hart Hyde, and William Glenn Hart. He is survived by his loving daughter, Sara Hart Raley, son-in-law, James Phillip (Phil) Raley, grandson, Jim Raley, granddaughter, Leigh Raley Mims, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Alabama on Monday, July 2, 2012, at 4:00 PM. Dr. Jim Sanders will officiate. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Opelika, Alabama on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM, officiated by Dr. Tim Thompson and Reverend Randy Woodham. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to First United Methodist Church of Opelika, Alabama or the charity of your choice.
