Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, woodworking, home and auto repair. In his early years, he was an Eagle Scout and was president of his high school class of 1946. He earned a bachelor’s degree of mechanical engineering from University of Toledo. He retired as director of industrial service in the loss prevention department after a 40 year career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. As a registered professional mechanical engineer in both Massachusetts and Ohio, he chaired on various committees with the American National Standards Institute from which he received The Meritorious Service Award. Some Michigan landmarks he inspected during his career included the famed Edmund Fitzgerald. Due to the traveling requirements of his job, he was also able to witness the Mackinaw Bridge being constructed. Most importantly, he cherished his faith in Jesus Christ. He served in the church as an adult Sunday school teacher, deacon, and he ministered to shut-ins.
