Del (Delwyn) Tait woke up in heaven on Friday morning, December 10, 2021. The old things of this world have passed away for him. His body is no longer needed. It has returned to dust. We believe Del is living out his Hope in Christ forever in his new home, laughing and telling stories. Many of us are mourning our loss….but we know that Del is alive in Christ, is complete and healthy and whole in his new home….and is really, really okay.
“EVEN WHILE WE’RE AT HOME IN THE BODY, WE’RE HOMESICK TO BE WITH THE MASTER— FOR WE LIVE BY FAITH, NOT BY WHAT WE SEE WITH OUR EYES. WE LIVE WITH A JOYFUL CONFIDENCE, YET AT THE SAME TIME WE TAKE DELIGHT IN THE THOUGHT OF LEAVING OUR BODIES BEHIND TO BE AT HOME WITH THE LORD. SO WHETHER WE LIVE OR DIE WE MAKE IT OUR LIFE’S PASSION TO LIVE OUR LIVES PLEASING TO HIM.” II Corinthians 5:6-9
If you knew Del, you knew what he loved: his siblings. They were kids when their mom died. He was old enough to know her, and he tried to keep some of her memories and customs alive for as long as he could.
He loved old cars, car shows, trucks, tractors, houses on wheels, antique, new — anything with wheels. He loved to laugh. He was a people-watcher. He was an imitator and was quite good at it. He loved the stories of his ancestors and become one of the few who held that history in his heart.
He loved to take a fixer-upper and fix it up. He loved all kinds of real estate.
He loved to drive. He loved to exercise. He loved mowing the lawn. He loved gardening; he loved flowers. He loved to cook and eat! He loved ripping things apart and putting them back together better with the same stuff.
He was a helper. How many people did he help move things from place to place? Fix a pipe. Install a door. Change a toilet. He took his mother-in-law to her doctor’s appointments, even when his wife promised him he would never have to do "that stuff."
He loved to work, to go to work, to be good at what he was.
And he loved his new puppy. It was the first time that he would allow Donna to call him "Lad’s Daddy." Not one of the other pets were allowed to be Del’s “kid,” although the "dog-cat" Banker got really close. Lad misses his Daddy, just like his Mommy does.
Del loved Jesus and is now at peace.
He will be loved forever by his wife of 33 years, Donna; and admired and missed by his brothers and sister Marlen Tait, Janice (Dwight) Carpenter, Kim (Corry) Tait; sister-in-law, Joyce Bame; as well as many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
All of us long for the day that we join together in our new bodies, in our new home, in Jesus’ heaven…to hear Del laugh again.
If you would like to laugh one more time with Del’s family, there will be a visitation with the family at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home - Dorr Chapel (4330 18th St. Dorr, MI 49323) on Friday, January 14 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.kubiakcookdorr.com.
