With heavy hearts, the family of Virginia Ann Crow Perkins announces her passing on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the age of 85 years old. Due to declining health, Virginia moved from Donaldsonville to Birmingham, AL, 19 months ago to be near her family. Virginia was born on May 3, 1933 in Crossett, AR. She and her husband Clay later moved to Donaldsonville, LA. They had one son, Clay Jr., and a beautiful granddaughter, Carly. Virginia was a 1951 graduate of Istrouma High School and went on to receive a BA degree from Southwestern LA Institute. She later studied abroad in Europe and concluded her education with a Master of Education Degree from Nicholls State University where she was a Silver Sister in the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She served as an educator in the public school system for 43 years, the majority of which was at Donaldsonville High School as a teacher and librarian. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Donaldsonville and served on multiple community and professional organizations, such as the Donaldsonville AARP Chapter and the LA Retired Teachers Association. Virginia loved sports of all kinds and put her game face on every Saturday for the LSU Football team. She also loved to travel and did so extensively with her husband and friends all throughout North America and Europe; but her heart was always in Louisiana, where she had many wonderful memories, friends, caregivers, and acquaintances. Now at peace, Virginia’s journey is now over and she’s finally back home, in the place she loved the most, the City of Donaldsonville, LA. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Clay Carter, Jr. (Kelli) Perkins; granddaughter, Carly Virginia Perkins; cousins, Joseph Daye and Jerry (Becky) Daye along with a host of other special family members. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clay Carter Perkins, Sr.; her parents, Mamie and David Crow and an infant brother, David Brad Crow Jr. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of her caregivers and friends but especially Cliff and Jodie Sherman. They assisted the family in more ways than can be measured and made multiple trips to Birmingham to visit her. They would also like to thank the staff of Fairhaven Methodist Retirement Home for their compassion and excellent care they provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 371, Donaldsonville, LA., 70346.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville, LA. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Donaldsonville, LA. for 1:30 pm. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Baton Rouge, LA.
