Pasquale Bernard “P.B.” Mistretta Jr., a native and resident of Donaldsonville, LA, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Friday, September 30, 2022, surrounded by his family. P.B. was a joyful and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, friend, coach, patron, and acquaintance. He honorably served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Saint Paul in the Pacific from 1955 to 1957. He worked at Texaco Refinery as storehouse manager. He enjoyed keeping prayer at Adoration, had a deep devotion to Our Blessed Mother, and sang for many years in the Ascension Church choir. His love for music never faded; even in later years when he lost his hearing, you could still hear him singing old ditties like “Side by Side” and “Love Is Here To Stay.” Quick witted and charming, P.B. could always light up a room with a joke.
He is survived by his two daughters; Renee Mistretta and son in law Jerome Peltier; Michelle Curley and husband, Patrick; one son, Pasquale “Pal” Mistretta III and wife, Shirley; three grandchildren, John Mistretta, Stephen Peltier, and Lauren Mistretta Montes and husband, Dago.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mercedes “Merce” Hernandez Mistretta; his parents P.B. Mistretta Sr. and Suzanne Mariette; his sister Maria; and his brother Stevie.
Pallbearers will be John Mistretta, Stephen Peltier, Patrick Curley, Michael Mistretta, Pat Mistretta and Dago Montes.
Visitation will be held at Ascension Catholic Church in Donaldsonville on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 10am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm, celebrated by Rev. Matthew Dupre. Entombment will follow at Ascension Catholic Church Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online at the Donaldsonville Area Arc or by mail to The Brothers of the Sacred Heart New Orleans: 6305 Elysian Fields Ave. Suite 300, New Orleans, LA 70122.
His children would like to thank The Brothers of the Sacred Heart for educating their father who adored his Lord, cherished his faith and the Rosary, and walked hand in hand with Christ.
So long, Daddy.
