Melvyne James Trahan, 73, a native of Orange, TX and a resident of Donaldsonville, LA, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at his residence. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, 3:00 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with a visitation preceding the service starting at 1:00 PM and continuing until services at 3:00 PM. A reception will be held at the church hall following the service. Mel followed his father’s footsteps in the oilfield after four years in the Air Force. He was a deep sea diver and underwater welder for 15 years diving to depths of over 500 feet. He was an avid outdoorsman from the time of his youth enjoying hunting, fishing and shooting. His custom built casting rods, and hand carved gun stocks and hand grips are works of art. He was a self-taught cue smith, repairing and refurbishing pool cues. His custom built barbeque smokers and fish fryers entertained hundreds of friends. He will always be remembered as a proud father, grandfather, brother, cousin and uncle. He was respected and admired by all who knew and loved him. He will be missed dearly at the houseboat, the Miss Mable, in the spillway on Bayou Long. Mel is survived by his daughters, Leah Gautreaux and husband Kenward, Paula Green and husband Todd, Sheryl Leaber and husband Robert; sons, Barry Trahan and Evan Trahan; brother, Cleben Trahan and his wife, Mona and their children, Boyd, Elizabeth, Michael, Rebecca, Gregory; step daughters, Lisa Love Schuble, Cari Love Steward, Cheri Love Grantham; grandchildren, Alyse, Hailey, Anna, Sadie, Sarah, James, Andrew, Ashley, Gordon, Benjamin; great-grandchild, Addalynne; uncle, Elridge “Gee” Zeringue and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
