Geraldine Acosta Landry

God graciously blessed her, her family, and her closest friends with cherished time to say their goodbyes and reminisce about the beautiful moments in her life shared with those she loved most.

In her last days, she assured everyone of her confidence and hope in the goodness and mercy of the Lord and her joy and expectant faith of being with Him in eternity.

Gerry was born October 13, 1937, in Lockport. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas L. Landry, parents Joseph and Julia Acosta, and sister Phyllis Desormeaux.

She is survived by her sister Roberta Starks; her daughters Kim Landry Jaquillard and husband Paul, and Ann Landry Rosa and husband Owen; sons Greg Landry and wife Nancy, and Chris Landry and wife Mollie; her eight grandchildren Rachel Landry Fry and husband Chris, Rebecca Landry, Paul Jaquillard and wife Miranda, Parker Jaquillard, Douglas Landry and wife Annie, Christian Landry and wife Victoria, Lee Landry, and Arianna Rosa; and four great-grandchildren Evelyn Fry, Carter Fry, Lucie Landry, and Penelope Jaquillard.

Gerry, affectionally called Gran by her family, was a life-long learner and educator, avid reader and disciple of our Lord. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Nicholls State University. She retired from Assumption Parish Schools after 25 years and then went on to serve as principal of St. Elizabeth School until her second retirement.

She enjoyed traveling with her best friend and love of her life Douglas Landry as they visited each state in the contiguous U.S. after retirement. As a lover of books, she participated in numerous book clubs even up to the end of her life. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, cooking and reading cook books as if they were novels. She loved vacationing with her family and having all of her children and grandchildren in one place at the same time. Many wonderful memories of “Gran-beach” were made and will continue with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren because of her example.

Perhaps her greatest joy was spending time with her family and keeping up with each person’s life. She recalled each with great detail and love and committed to praying for the needs of each.

Though confined to a wheelchair for many years, she was a model of acceptance of the Lord’s will and taught many the beauty of seeing God in all things.

Gerry was an amazing listener and conversationalist, and a woman of wisdom and compassion. She will be deeply missed by all, including her most recent friends and caregivers at Holly Court.

Gerry’s family is especially grateful for her caregivers at Holly Court and visits from Rev. Andrew Merrick, Rev. Paul Yi, Rev. Charlie Landry, and Rev. Tomi Thomas.
