Neil came from the Bronx and made his home in Merrick, NY for the past 56 years.
Graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School, Bronx NY, Syracuse University and Syracuse Law School, Class of 1956, Neil was a renowned International Trademark Attorney for American Cyanamid after enjoying a successful private practice.
In the community he is a past president of Merrick Little League but would prefer to be remembered as an inclusive coach, who made positive playing experiences for his teams. He was a sought-after youth hockey coach. Inaugurating Newbridge Arena, he coached for two decades for the Town of Hempstead and coached for JFK Bellmore’s High School Hockey Team in the 70’s and 80’s when that program was new.
For his family he is fondly remembered for never forgetting where he came from. He was always helping extended family members whenever needed. Most importantly, he knew when and how to be supportive at the right time and doing the right thing.
The son of Myra and Arthur Baumgarten, He is survived by his loving wife, Sondra Baumgarten; sons Marc and Jay Baumgarten; grandchildren Aaron and Ray Baumgarten.
