I studied piano with Morton  Estrin when I was in high school in the early 1970s. What an honor it was to be one of his pupils. I adored the Saturday theory class and still have the Solfege book. He recognized and encouraged the unique qualities in each of his students and I sometimes felt that he was the only person who truly understood me.   He was a true gentleman who will never be forgotten. Requiesce in Pace.

I saw a Billy Joel tribute band last night and thought of Morton, looked him up today and found this.  I recall taking lessons from him for several years from age9-13.  I remember his genius, like Einstein to me, and the wonderful smells of his pipes, and his Saturday Theory classes( where I was the Dunce).
I never knew, as he never mentioned that he taught Billy Joel until many years later.  
I remember the album he recorded of classical children's lullabies...
You all should be very proud of the impact Morton made in his life on Many people. 



I  extend my condolences to the entire family.  I took piano lessons from him for several years when I was in my teens at the house in Hicksville.  My father was a musician who played with the big bands in multiple venues often in Manhattan.  I remember how  during my piano lessons Mr. Estrin would sit back and from across the room, from just watching,  would correct me --"-you know page two the 4th bar --you substituted your second finger for the third-"-His lessons always stayed with me and to this day one of my true joys is just sitting back and playing piano. I have a very busy pediatric practice and great family and still for great relaxation I'll play on my family's baby grand.  I took my family and friends several times to see Mr Estrin in concert and everyone was always just amazed.  Again condolences and I can't thank him enough for the lessons and wisdom he shared with me .

I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Estrin's loss. I attended Hofstra, and although I never studied with him, several of my friends did. I did hear him play amazing recitals and chatted with him a couple of times.  I am surprised that (as far as I know) this news was not featured prominently in Newsday. 

Robert, I am so sorry to hear about your Father.  I never knew him, but being one of your followers on Living Pianos, I received this message.  If you recall, we had a nice phone call regarding a Baldwin artisan series grand I had recently purchased a bit over a year ago.    Not only being a great father, he had a great musical influence on you as well.  We care with you.

I am deeply saddened to here of Morton's Passing, and Comforted that he is no longer in Discomfort. I get to consider Morton one the Fathers in my Life. I got to spent 7 years as Morton's Son-in-Law. His love and warmth for family and music always impressed me.   Rest Well Sir!

I met Morty alsmost four years ago and when he first walked into my room Roberta said to me he wont play the piano.  Morty and I had a special bond I adored him and he adored me.  And he played not just for me but for all the clients in the room.  He never forgot who my favorite composer was Motzart.  we were both blessed to have been brought together.  He was able to do what he loved best play his classical music and I to have the pleasure to enjoy his gift.  He will be missed but will remain forever in my heart.
