Evelyn was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1932 to Rose Smolens, who she was very close to, and David Eaton. Her mother was a milliner. Evelyn had no siblings. As a child of the great depression, Evelyn was skilled at saving money.
Evelyn was the wife of Seymour Pasichow for 34 years, and Seymour Reid for 26 years. The coincidence of their first names brought smiles to our faces.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, one step-son and step-daughter-in-law, and seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved birds, and flowers, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and engaging in many sports such as volleyball, tennis, swimming, ballroom and square dancing, and playing canasta, and Mah Jongg.
Her boundless energy and self-taught talents spilled over into many other activities. She was an avid sewist and made clothing for herself such as gowns for her sons’ bar mitzvahs, dresses, pants, and the flower girl dress her granddaughter wore to her wedding to Sy Reid. She also knitted sweaters for herself and others in the family, especially her grandchildren. She crocheted blankets as well.
She was dedicated lifelong learner and took college courses in religion, culture, and education. She always looked for ways to improve her health by seeking out medical innovations. Evelyn was a member of Hadassah, and an avid reader of books, articles, and magazines. She especially enjoyed the TV Guide. She enjoyed going to the movies, and seeing shows, as well as spending time with family and friends at holiday dinners and social events. Her favorite routines included exercising when she woke up in the morning and staying up late reading or watching favorite TV programs, especially Downton Abby.
Evelyn lived in Brooklyn, Oceanside, and Forest Hills, NY; Tamarac, FL; and Teaneck, NJ. As a result of the many places she lived and her love for travel she had friends who lived in many different places. Evelyn never forgot her childhood friends whom she knew since first grade, and who as teens called themselves the “APTAs.” Apt To do Anything!
Evelyn loved being part of the Pasichow family, often speaking fondly of her in-laws, Philip and Lillian. She worked for several years in the family business, Pasichow for Jewelry, and then as an office assistant in various companies.
Each member of her family was so special to her and she showed her lover and pride in her family in many ways. She took pride in her family’s accomplishment. She was the cool young grandma and great-grandma, often tiring out her family with her energy levels and quick walking pace. She loved animals, especially dogs, and had a dog named Tammy, and a cat named Patty.
Evelyn always acknowledged her family and friends’ special occasions, such as birthdays and celebrations. You could always expect a card, written in her beautiful penmanship to arrive at your home, at least two weeks in advance of the special date.
The dash between Evelyn’s birth, and death, 1932 – 2024, represents her life story, and all the time spent with family and friends, and how she lived and loved. We will always remember her smile, achievements, and strength.
Her loving and dedicated family stayed with her and kept her company each day when she entered the hospital, through her stay at the Center for Hope Hospice facility, bringing admirable comments from the hospice staff on how caring and devoted her family was.
On January 29, 2024, shortly after her grandson welcomed his first child into the world, and facetimed with her, Evelyn said “I am ready. I lived a good life.” She died peacefully, at the age of 91, on the morning of February 2, 2024.
