Our precious mother, sister and friend has gone home to be with her Lord. Vileata was born in the small community of Greenland, NS on August 27th 1940. She was the daughter of the late Orland and Lillian Peck. The seventh of eleven children, she knew well what it meant to share in the loving and caring of others. Vileata spent her entire life in the community in which she was born, where she was able to maintain close relationships with her siblings and their families, and where she was able to live her life with simplicity and devotion. Vileata married Cecil in 1963, and they were very proud of the home they made next to her birthplace, where they raised their three children in a community filled with faith, family and bubbling with activity. "Dubbie" was especially close with her four sisters and loved nothing more than spending time with them - walking, drinking tea, laughing and sharing memories. With her gentle nature, she was the one whose gentle graciousness often brought others together in quiet appreciation of the precious gifts of life. Vileata had a special bond with her sister, June. They were more than sisters; they were loyal side-kicks and best friends - they even married brothers! Through the seasons, Dub and June could be seen cruising in the golf cart, or roaming the fields, roads and woods of Greenland while foraging for blueberries, teaberries, and picking May Flowers. Vileata was very proud of her grandchildren, Anna and Alex. They will miss visits at Nanny's house, when she would hold them close while reading stories, and find old toys from years gone by for them to play with. Vileata leaves many loving memories with her children: Allen and his wife Fay, Scott and his wife Adeline (children Anna and Alex), and her daughter, Shelly. She will also be dearly missed by her sisters Juanita (Ellsworth) Hutchins, Ruby DeWolfe, June (Frank) Hewey and Julie Rafuse. She is predeceased by her husband Cecil Hewey, sister Vida Rose, and brothers Vincent, Lewis, Homer, Willard, Carroll and Edward Peck.Visitation will be held at Greenland Bible Chapel, Greenland Rd on April 1st from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The funeral will be held at the chapel on Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00pm with reception to follow. Donations may be made in Vileata's memory to the Greenland Cemetery Society.
