Smith, Reginald Wallace Denman – 85, Smith’s Cove, Digby Co. passed away September 3, 2011 in the Digby General Hospital. Born in Ashmore, Digby Co. he was the son of the late Wallace and Marion (Burns) Smith. Reg was employed for over twenty years for Weymouth Industries making furniture. He later was employed with DND in Cornwallis where he was carpenter foreman for many years and had many fond memories of his friends and co-workers from the base. He was well known locally as a master craftsman for his woodworking and there are hundreds of birdhouses, lighthouses, and tables, as well as many one-of – kind pieces in many homes in Nova Scotia, as well as across Canada and the USA. Besides his gift with wood, he had a green thumb and always had a big garden. He loved growing and arranging flowers and in days gone bye, he took a prize or two at a few flower shows in Digby. A hunter and fisherman in younger days, he loved nature and the outdoors. In later years, his cats were the most important of things to him and the gentleness and kindness he showed them was a hallmark of life. Reg is survived by his daughter Gail (David Cvet), sons Paul (Darlene) and Leonard (Linda), stepdaughters Linda (Wayne) Sanford, Lois Stevenson and Judi MacDonald as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Reg was predeceased by his wife Bessie, brother Herbert and sisters Ethel and Ruth. Visitation and Memorial Service will be 4- 6pm Thursday , September 8, from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby. (245-2525).
