Michael James Whelan passed way at home in Cornwallis Park, NS on June 30, 2017 at age 75. Born in St. John's, NL, he was a son of the late Michael and Jean (Burke) Whelan. Left to mourn are his wife and best friend, Noreen Elizabeth of 54 years; daughters, Barbara Jean (Paul) Pressey, St. Thomas, Ont.; Elana Michelle (Lee) Pressey, Lucan, Ont; Katherine Christine (Wayne) Grant, London, Ont; son, Michael Paul (Yvonne) Whelan, West Porters Lake, NS; grandson, Liam and granddaughter, Kennedy both of St. Thomas, Ont.; sisters, Catherine (John) Carter, Ont; Mary Whelan, NL; brothers, James Whelan, Ont. and Bernard (Arlene) Whelan, BC. He will also remembered by many nieces and nephews from NL, Ont., NS and BC. Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by sisters, Anna Noble, Patsy Whelan and son, Michael James in infancy. Mike was a plumber and pipe fitter by trade, retiring after working 30 years for Ford Motor Co. in Talbotville, Ont. Mike was a proud and grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 38 and a half years which gave him the ability to enjoy his life. He loved hunting, fishing and enjoyed his cabin on the lake. These last four years he experienced failing health to the point he was hospitalized. He spent the last six months at Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown which he liked, he loved the staff there. Mike will be forever remembered for his love of life and his family. Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby (902-245-2525). Funeral mass will be at 1pm on Friday July 7, from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Digby. Father Vincent Onyekelu will preside. A reception will follow at Deep Brook, Lions Club.
