It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael James Hewey of Digby. After a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Michael passed away peacefully on May 13, 2017 at the age of 61. He was the youngest son of the late Robert and Evelena Hewey. Michael was a people person and this shone through in his work at Service Canada where he was a long time employee. He went above and beyond to help his clients. He was an avid outdoors man and could frequently be found hunting, fishing, four wheeling or spending time at Victory Lodge with friends and family. He had a strong passion for music and loved playing his guitar. He picked up his guitar every opportunity that he got, even if it was only for a few minutes. Michael could often be found on his back deck strumming away and never missed an opportunity to play with friends. Michael will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Donna (MacNeil) Hewey; siblings Vivian O`Neil, Gordon (Debbie) Hewey, Wanda (Rickey) Pulley; sisters-in-law Brenda (Roy) Rossiter; Beverly (Allan) Young; Ellen (Gary) Landry; nephews Ryan Pulley, Rodney Pulley, Andrew Young; nieces Vanessa (Dale) Wagner, Sherry O'Neil, Laure O'Neil, Miranda (Paul) Kourtsidis, Rachael Rossiter, Nicole Landry, as well as an uncle, many aunts, cousins, great-nephews and great-nieces. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his niece Amber O'Neil and parents-in-law Raymond and Verna MacNeil. A special thank you to family and friends for all their love and support. A heartfelt thank you to all the doctors and nurses for the care and compassion shown to Michael. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Jayne’s Funeral Home Digby. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9, Saturday, May 20 and from where a celebration of life service will be held 3 pm Sunday, May 21 all from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby with Pastor Chuck Daniels officiating.
