BULLOCK, LCol Michael Wayne. Mike passed away peacefully in Smiths Cove, NS on April 12, 2023, at the age of 70, after battling cardiac and pulmonary challenges. Born in Gimli, AB, he was the beloved son of Merl and Marjorie Constance, both deceased, and brother to David Bullock (also deceased). He is survived by his son Christopher and daughter Katelyn, his wife Regina (Lina) Venclaviciene of Lithuania, and his three step-daughters Aida, Karolina, and Inga. He is also survived by his best friend for many years, a Cairn Terrier by the name of “Tail” who is now living with his friend Melissa.
LCol Bullock had a distinguished and honourable career in the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in Germany, Egypt, Iraq and Bosnia Herzegovina on three tours. He was valued for his expertise in logistics and made significant contributions during his time in Bosnia Herzegovina. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (LCol) and retired from the military in 2012. Mike was decorated for his many contributions included being awarded the Iraq Medal with clasp for his service with the British Forces in 2007, and the Commander Stabilization Force Commendation, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2000, as well as the Special Service Medal with NATO Bar, Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, UN Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP), UN Emergency Forces in the Middle East (UNEFME), NATO Medal for former Yugoslavia and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration with two bars.
He was also a voracious reader with an extensive library of books on various topics, including politics, military history, and fiction. He had studied history and geography at the University of New Brunswick, graduating in 1973.
Mike had a deep passion for the outdoors and found solace in exploring remote trails in the Rocky Mountains as an avid hiker and climber. Standing on a precipice, overlooking vast forests, mountains, and valleys, he found moments of reflection and happiness. His ashes shall find their final resting place, gracefully scattered in the majestic Rocky Mountains where the four winds will carry Mike’s remains into eternity, forever part of the rugged beauty of nature’s grandeur.
