He came into this world blonde-haired, blue-eyed and with a mischievous smile on April 16, 1961 in Digby, Nova Scotia. He was raised by his parents, Jacqueline Levy and the late Graham Leroy Saunders, always with the wise guidance of his doting grandparents, Althea and the late Lindstol Saunders.
With his sharp wit and natural skill of putting anyone at ease, he spent most of his life in sales. Later, he developed a passion for carpentry and became a true craftsman who could fix or build anything.
Mark had an insatiable curiosity about the world and never stopped learning. A man with a soft heart and strong mind, he could debate politics and sports with the best of them.
His true passion, though, was always his family. He devoted his life to his one true love and high school sweetheart, Su-Ellen Saunders (O’Neill).
Married passionately for 33 years, they raised two children, Graham Lindstol Saunders and Mary-Ellen Southwick. Mark was always a champion for his children whom he affectionately called ‘pal’ and ‘pumpkin,’ and considered their happiness his greatest achievement. He took immense pride in talking about his family to anyone who would listen.
He leaves behind a legacy of deep love and undying devotion in his wife, Su-Ellen; children, Graham, Mary-Ellen and her husband, Reid Southwick; grandmother, Althea; mother, Jacqueline and her husband, Richard Levy; sisters, Cheryl Longmire and Stacie Saunders, and her husband, Kelly Powell; brother, Scott Saunders; and so many cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Graham, and his grandfather, Lindstol.
A funeral will be held to honour his life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Digby United Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff White presiding.
