Malcolm was born in Annapolis Royal on September 25, 1935, to Elmer and Doris (Porter) Ritchie. He attended school in Annapolis Royal before moving to Ontario at a young age, where he worked at General Motors for several years. In 1967, he returned home and worked as a carpenter for the majority of his career at CFB Cornwallis. Following his retirement, he started a woodworking/framing business at his home in Mount Pleasant. Malcolm had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed puttering in his shop, but perhaps his greatest joy came from spending time in his vegetable gardens.
Malcolm is survived by his sons, Scott Ritchie (Susan) of Centrelea NS, and Stephen Ritchie (Kim) of Lantz, NS, as well as his step-son Jamie Parent (Suzanne Martell) of Halifax, NS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Keirstin Ritchie of Montreal, QC, Hilary Ritchie Greene of Middleton, NS, Meghan Grady (Jesse) of Halifax, NS, and Kyle Ritchie of Halifax, NS. Additionally, he leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Layla and Austin. Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 40 years Muriel (Forrest), his sister Evelyn Hersey, his brother-in-law Roy Hersey, his son Randolph (Randy) Ritchie, and his step-son Peter Parent.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby, NS. In accordance with Malcolm's wishes, there will be no service or gathering. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge for the exceptional care they provided Malcolm during the over 5 years he spent residing at the facility. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in Malcolm's memory.
