Born in Weymouth, Digby County, NS on May 6, 1930; Ethel was the daughter of the late Philip E. Filleul and Blanche O. (Gibson) Filleul. She was predeceased by her husband Stanley A. Hatt and her siblings: Philip, Kenneth, Margaret and Blanche; all of whom she missed deeply, especially her mother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Ethel is survived by her children; Sandra of Halifax, Arthur of Weymouth, and David “Billy” (Ann) of Fort McMurray. She also leaves behind a granddaughter, Molly as well as nieces and nephews: Sharon, Dawn, Philip, Margaret, John, Jane, Laurie and Doug.
Ethel was a lifelong member of Saint Peter’s Anglican Church in Weymouth North. She served for several years as a Warden and was a long term member of the ACW. She was extremely proud that the current day Saint Peter's Anglican Church was constructed during the 40 year rectorship of her Great Great Grandfather, Reverend James P. Filleul. At the time of her death Mom was the oldest member of Saint Peter’s. Mom was a loving and devoted Mother who took great pride in the accomplishments of her children. She enjoyed music; learning to play the violin later in life. She loved and enjoyed all animals, especially Max who would visit her regularly. Among other things mom enjoyed gardening, a game of golf, playing Bridge, traveling and her favourite TV show, Jeopardy. Ethel was known for her taste in style and fashion, she always looked her best.
Before marriage Mom worked as a bookkeeper at Taylor’s Sawmill in Weymouth. Later she worked with our father at their business, Weymouth Exporters Limited where she was secretary and bookkeeper.
Visitation will be at Jayne’s Funeral Home, 5114 Highway #1 Evangeline Trail (Weymouth North) on Tuesday September 6, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday September 7, 2022 from Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, #5 Fort Point Road (Weymouth North) and officiated by Reverend John K. Saynor. The service will be available online via livestream. A reception will follow at the Goodwin Hotel, 4616 Highway #1, Evangeline Trail (Weymouth).
Mom has been cremated as per her request. Burial will follow at a later date in Saint Peter's Cemetery.
