With heavy hearts we announce that John Frederick White Jr., the former "Mayor of Waterford", transitioned back to spirit on August 28, 2020, at the age of 66. Born January 3, 1954 to the late Mary and Freddy White, he proudly lived most of his life on Digby Neck.
John was the big brother of Brian, Lynn (Paul Corbett) and Cathy Barr. He was an amazing father to his beloved daughters who were his greatest pride; Cathy-Lynn (Chris Harlow), Adrianne (Rylan Walker), Sarah, Emily (Keith Smith), Jonnie Leigh (Eric Cook). John absolutely adored his grandchildren and cherished every moment with them; Oakley, Omri, Iris, Fernie, and Ramsey. He was excited for the birth of his granddaughter Wren. Also left behind are nephews Jason and Timothy Barr, Colin Bondy and niece Nicole Lockerbie.
Although separated, he enjoyed many easy family times with Donna, Al (Gaudet) and the kids. Nothing was more important to him than his family. John worked for years in the fishing industry doing everything from fish dragging, lobster fishing, hand lining and weir fishing. He spent many summers in Sandy Cove entertaining tourists, family and friends who would stop by the camp to see him. Many magical summers were spent on the beach with him.
His love for people and being on the water led him to a fulfilling job working on the Digby Neck and Island Ferries. Big John was a hilarious story teller. He was an avid reader with an interest in world history and events. He loved playing 45's, being in the woods, gardening in the summers and splitting kindling in the winter. To meet him was to remember him. To know him was to love him. He was larger than life. We are left with a huge void in our hearts that will be filled by the great lifetime worth of love, laughter and memories we shared with him and he did it all his way.
A celebration of this great mans life will be held on Sunday September 13, 2020 at the Sandy Cove Firehall at 1:00PM for ALL who would like to attend. Masks are mandatory and social distancing will apply. Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby. Share a memory or leave a condolence at www.jaynesfuneralhome.com
