McEwan, John Gregory “Greg” “Grey Cloud” –Age 60 of Bear River, passed away Saturday April 5th, 2014 in Digby General Hospital. Greg was born and raised in Bear River, a son of the late Richard and Marguerite (Meuse) McEwan. Greg attended school at Oakdene, Bear River and Digby Regional High School. He went to vocational school and was a certified welder. He was chief of The Bear River First Nation in 1979 for four terms. Greg was very musical and it showed in his guitar music and song. He was a renowned basket maker for 25 years and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #22, Bear River for 27 years. Greg loved his family very much and had many good friends. He is survived by spouse, Margaret Sloan; sisters, Patricia Doucette, Judy Oickle; brother, Peter McEwan; nieces, Dawn McEwan, Jessica Oickle; nephews, Rob McEwan, Billy Oickle, Kevin Doucette and Paul Doucette. Visitation Tuesday April 8th from 7-9 pm and Wednesday April 9th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with Legion Service at 8pm from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch Street, Digby (245-2525). Funeral service at 11 am, Thursday April 10th, from St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Bear River First Nations. Father Henry Smolenaars presiding with interment in the parish cemetery.
