James (Jim) Ralph Dunn, age 90 of Lansdowne, Digby County, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 15, 2017, Jim was born at the Dunn Family home on May 29, 1927,the second youngest of six sons to the late Ralph L and Alice (Mason) Dunn. Dad was best known around Nova Scotia as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, specializing in Farm Equipment at his brother Keith's business in Digby -K&G Dunn Truck and Tractor Ltd. (now known as Fleetline ). He retired in 1987 after 40 dedicated years. A return trip home in 1951, Dad was greeted by his Mom and introduced to her boarder, a local teacher, Joyce Benson. They quickly fell in love, courted and then married in July 1955. Mom and Dad celebrated their 49th Wedding Anniversary the year of her passing in December of 2004. Dad's love of farming, hunting, skeet shooting and fishing provided much quality time with family and friends over the years. If he wasn't working on his woodlot (forest management) or home property with his brother Harold, and one of his sons, you would either find him in his workshop building furniture, or completing a renovation project, or the garage working on a piece of equipment. He had an eye for detail and perfection which is seen on the property with yard/building care and house maintenance. Dad's second love was reading. We would tap into his wealth of knowledge many times.
He was a member of the Digby East Fish & Game Association, Sissiboo Forest Management, and Smith's Cove Baptist Church. He is survived by his three sons, Larry (Lorraine), Terry both of Calgary; Brian of Shelburne; and daughter, Carole who remained with him after 2004. He will be also sadly missed by his granddaughter Cicely, great granddaughter Hailey, both of Calgary, his many nieces and nephews, cousin Sally from the US, many close friends in Ontario, Lower Sackville, and those here in Digby. Nearest to his heart is his 'Darling'. Visitation will be 7-9 pm Tuesday, September 19 from Jayne’s Funeral Home 7 Birch St. Digby ( 902-245-2525) and from where funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, September 20. Rev. Mark Cress will officiate with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River. Donations can be made to the Lung Association, Cancer Association, or the charity of your choice. Family flowers only.
