Imogene Muriel Barton- Age 87 of Jordantown passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on December 19, 2016. Born Weymouth, she was a daughter of the late George and Amy (Cromwell) Jarvis. Imogene retired from working at Digby Children Training Center. She was a founding and longstanding member of Jordantown/Acaciaville/Conway (JAC) Betterment Association and a member of Acaciaville Branch NS Women’s Institute, the only black branch in Canada. As a JAC member, she advocated for a “Centre of Excellence, a legacy as she said “for our children and children’s children for generations to come.” She rejoiced in her baptism, she enjoyed music and playing piano for many community groups. Imogene loved and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She is survived by daughters, Amy (Gregory) Cromwell, Halifax; Maureen, Dartmouth; Marjorie, Dartmouth; Sherry (Ronald), Halifax; Rowann (Peter), Digby; Leta (Todd Sr.) Simms, Digby; son, Douglas Jr., Digby; sisters, Rowena (John) Morrison, Halifax; Emily Jarvis, Halifax; brother, George Jarvis Jr., Halifax; grandchildren, Michael, Marcel, Matthew, Douglas, Joseph, Chandelle Simms, all of Dartmouth; Louis Jr.(Angela) Francis, Larry Jr., Dominick, Nashinka, all of Halifax; Bryan (Allison), Connie Francis, Geanne all of Edmonton; Peter Cromwell, Todd Jr. (Tiffany) Simms, both of Digby; great-grandchildren, Julliette Simms-Grosse, Dartmouth; Troyce (Autumn) Latta; Dawntez and Guydell Simmons, Kailyn Slaunwhite, Larry, Larenza, Owen Francis, all of Halifax; Teagan, Tyler, Authumn Francis, and Jabari of Edmonton; Emma, Peter and Kristina Cromwell, Aysha and Todd Simms, of Digby; Step great-grandchildren, Sean, Halifax, Mariah, Digby; three great-great grandchildren, god-daughter, Holly Miller, Digby; nieces and nephews, Steven Morrison, Halifax; Tara and Amber Jarvis, Halifax. Besides her parents, Imogene was predeceased by husband, Douglas Barton Sr., son, Larry Sr., daughter, Mildred (Louis) Francis-Barton and great-grandson, Zion. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Imogene may be made to JAC Betterment Association towards “Centre of Excellence” Community Centre. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9, Tuesday, December 27th from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby, also where the funeral service will be at 11am, on Wednesday. Pastor Theresa Character and Rev.
