Donald James Alford -Age 69 of Digby, Nova Scotia passed away January 3, 3018 at home with family by his side in Digby, Nova Scotia. Born May 3, 1948 he was a son of the late Jack and Marjorie (O’Connell) Alford. Don lived east of Toronto most of his life and from a very young age worked as a project manager for a small private construction company called Cemal for over 40 years. Hockey was a huge part of Don's life and he played and travelled to various tournaments for many years with the Whitby Marigold team. In his later years he played pickup hockey. Don spent many fun years power boating on the Trent system and later Georgian Bay. Next came 15 years of enjoying cottage life on Mazinaw Lake. After retiring from the construction business Don and Denise made a big move to Digby, Nova Scotia to purchase and run a historic 10 room Inn on the waterfront. Don loved mingling and serving guests their breakfasts and took pride in keeping the grounds beautiful. Don was a people magnet and everyone who met him instantly liked him. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him. Don is Survived by his wife of 30 wonderful years, Denise Alford; daughters, Nickie Alford, Stacey Alford, Allison Traviss; sister, Millie Ainslie; brothers, Dave and John Alford; cherished grandchildren, Joey, Claire, Adalina, Emily, Chloe and Carter. A celebration of Don's life will be held Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at Canlan Ice Sports, 1401 Phillip Murray Dr., Oshawa, L1J 8C4. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 pm, followed by a service at 2:00 pm and refreshments. We encourage people to share any memories they have of Don following the service.
