Crystal enjoyed going for drives with Herbert, family picnics, nurturing their beautiful flowers and shrubs, gathering around the campfire, and listening to Reg, Junior & Melanie play the guitars and sing. She loved organizing family get-togethers, planning meals and desserts well in advance. Her camera / phone was never far away, capturing gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, milestones, family photos, food, and so much more. She was often the first to suggest washer toss, s’mores, beach days, mackerel fishing, and other fun adventures. Listening to her chimes brought her peace, as did her collection of angels, cardinals and photographs. She treasured family stories, memories and traditions.
Baking and cooking were two of Crystal’s favourite passions, often making extra so she could share with her family, friends and co-workers. It certainly was not unusual to see social media posts showcasing her freshly baked goodies and comments like “I’ll be right there” and “you know where I live, right?” made her smile. She loved to entertain and their home was the gathering place for many family get-togethers where deliciously cooked meals and baked treats was the norm. Even at the end, when she was heavily medicated and in pain she was able to make us chuckle with her sense of humour.
She took her role of cashier very seriously and was well known for being the one that everyone wanted to go to, regardless of how long her checkout line was. She loved to tease and joke with her customers, always doing her best to share a smile and a chuckle as they continued on their day. She worked 20 years at Digby Sobeys; 12 at Digby Save Easy and 2 each at Canadian Tire and Shoppers Drug Mart.
For 7 years she cherished her role of Sunday School Teacher at the Little River Baptist Church and the children loved her. Her faith definitely helped her accept her diagnosis and know that she would soon be with God and her deceased loved ones.
