Paul spent most of his youth in Dexter, MI graduating from Dexter High School and earning an associate’s degree in agriculture from Michigan State University. He loved farming and was a member of the Chelsea Steer Club and raised pigs for 4-H. At Dexter High School, he was a president of the Future Farmers of America and was a member of the Dexter Varsity basketball team. He also worked at the annual Dexter Knights of Columbus Chicken Broil where his love for anything barbeque began and he ultimately mastered the art of the grill – serving as grill chief at many friends and family barbeque events in MI and PA. Paul was an avid hunter as well, and enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting on the Quigley Farm, hosting many Deer Camps for family and friends. He spent over 20 years of his adult life in the newspaper business, first as a reporter and then publisher and editor of small-town papers in Milan, MI and Honesdale, PA. After spending about 25 years in Honesdale, he returned home to Dexter. During his recent years he raised steers and pigs at the farm and hosted yet another Deer Camp. His cooking talents were also a big part of many family gatherings - his homemade french fries were often the main event and amazing!
Paul is survived by his mother Rosemary and her partner Richard, his brothers Bill (Apple) and Pat, his sister Teri (Frank) and his beloved dog, Astro. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins of the Quigley, Malik, Drewyor, Doherty and Herderich families. His father William, and grandparents preceded him in death.
Paul will be missed by his family and many friends.He was a friendly, kind and gentle man.
A memorial gathering for Paul will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad St, Dexter, Michigan 48130, followed by a funeral service from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
