Margaret affectionately known as “Margie", was born on May 7th, 1935 in De Graff, Minnesota to parents John and Aleen (O'Clair) Cahill. Margaret spent most of her life living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She would often share stories about her childhood homes both on Joy Road and most notably their home uptown on Washington Street. She attended school in Ann Arbor and graduated from Old Pioneer High School in 1953.
On June 27, 1957 she married Edward Swisher whom she was married to for many years. They began a journey in life that would bring them seven children (two sets of twins), 18 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. The family moved to Dexter in 1974. Margaret soon began working for Dexter Community Schools as a cook in the lunchroom (previously she had worked for Michigan "Ma" Bell). After years of service she became Lead of the Kitchen, and she held that position until her retirement in 1996.
Growing up her children can fondly remember spending time in the Upper Peninsula where she loved to camp. She also loved Christmas time and decorating for the season. They loved to hear her beautiful voice singing Christmas songs as the family spent time in Clinton for Christmas at Grandma Cahill's house.
Margaret was an avid gardener and was often complimented on her yard. She enjoyed travelling, reminiscing, spending time with family, bowling, quilting (all sewing even crocheting masks for people during COVID-19). Margaret enjoyed life and everything it had to offer. She was always there to help others in their time of need no matter what--her fighting spirit is something that can be remembered by all. Everyone who knew Margaret Swisher considers it a blessing to have been on the Earth with such a caring, loving, passionate, strong person like her.
Margaret is survived by her children: Beverly (Ron) Hurt of Clinton, MI; Craig Swisher of Ypsilanti, MI; Donna (Jefferey) Romans of Pinckney, MI; Deanna (Timothy) Kurowicki of Dexter, MI; Norma (James) Kovacik of Whitmore Lake, MI; and Barbara Toth of South Lyon, Ml. and her sisters Elizabeth Stacey of San Pedro, CA, and Marcia
