Her Legacy:
Marcia was a beautiful woman with incredibly strong convictions. She loved her family immensely. She would do anything for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All in-laws were treated as precious family. She truly was the family matriarch and the glue. She is the reason our huge family is so close. She taught us how to love, how to stick together and how to have fun. She taught that family comes first and is the most important thing. She cooked like there were 40 people coming over and baked the best homemade sweets. She loved all holidays with her family. Family was always coming and go-ing with gatherings at her house.
Marcia may have been short, but she was fierce. She was a strong woman who spoke her mind. She would do anything to protect her family - and those values were instilled in all of her offspring. Every day she focused on being a good wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a good sense of humor and a joyful smile for everyone she met.
Her History:
Marcia’s childhood included helping on her family’s farm with gardening, raising beef, pigs, and chickens. She had a pet lamb named, Nancy. She was an excellent student with perfect grades. As an adult she continued gardening and growing food for her family. She married Anthony E. Latocki of Milan, MI, on November 27, 1948. They started their family and lived in their first home that Anthony built himself. Her children witnessed a strong loving marriage built on trust and commitment. They moved to Dexter, MI, when Anthony obtained a new job at the University of Michigan and continued raising their family. Several years after Anthony’s sudden death, Marcia remarried to Charles Vaillancourt. They lived in Ann Arbor and spent the rest of their life together. Continuing to exemplify and model a strong and loving marriage for her family.
Her lifelong talents and employment career were outstanding. In her high school days she created paintings, drawings and learned typing and shorthand. As an adult she became a professional shorthand secretary, high-speed typist, MOS data entry expert. For a season in her life, she was a skilled institutional cook at the school systems where her children attended. Her children always thought of that as her way to keep a closer eye on them, and it was. She was also employed by DAPCO of Dexter and secretary for the Dean of Engineering at the University of Michigan.
Her Hobbies and Passions:
Marcia was a devout Catholic her entire life, always making church attendance a priority. Her biggest passion, though, was hugging and squeezing grand baby cheeks. She enjoyed baking, cooking and collecting recipes. She loved pets and enjoyed having pet birds and feeding birds in her own back yard. She loved sewing, crocheting gifts and making all sorts of craft projects. She loved gardening and keeping a tidy house. She enjoyed playing games and winning. From card games to shuffle board to golf, she wanted to win.
She loved traveling Up North to snowmobile and shine for deer with Anthony. They both adored Gordie Howe, Red Wings Hockey and camping with their kids as they grew up. Later in life, she became an avid golfer and vacationing every year in Ludington on Lake Michigan with Chuck. They enjoyed watching the Badger ship (“Grandma’s Boat”) leave the Ludington port every morning and return every night while vacationing. Marcia was a major U of M Hockey fan with yearly season tickets and never missed a home game. Go Blue!
If you knew her in any way and were touched by her life, then you are a better person for it. She’s in her heavenly home now dancing and celebrating with Anthony and others who have gone before.
