Joseph "Joe" Zabinsky

Joe grew up on his families blueberry farm with his 6 brothers and sisters in Dexter. He enjoyed an active childhood caring for the farm animals and exploring nature.

Joe attended St. Joseph Catholic primary school and graduated from Dexter High School. After high school Joe joined the United States Army where he earned the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal.

Upon his separation, Joe returned home to the family blueberry farm and in the early 1970's helped plant the west field and together with the east field the land became known as the Zabinsky Farm. He would begin his career as a carpenter for the St. Joseph Health System in both Ypsilanti and the hospitals current location in Ann Arbor.

Joe was an accomplished woodworker and often could be found working on his latest project. He was a calm, quiet, and humble individual who loved to spend evenings reading the newspaper and solving the weekly crossword. He was a dedicated, caring husband and father to both his biological children and his extended step children. He was an active and dedicated member of the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Dexter, the Knights of Columbus, and the Dexter American Legion.

Later in life, Joe married Mary Romine on November 11th, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter, Michigan.

Joe is survived by his spouse, Mary June Zabinsky; his daughter Elizabeth “Lisa” Zabinsky.

Joe was preceded in death by his daughter Ann Marie Zabinsky; his son James Zabinsky; his father John Zabinsky; his mother Bessie Zabinsky; his brothers and sisters; and his first wife Madora Zabinsky.

A visitation for Joe will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad St, Dexter, Michigan 48130. A scripture service will occur Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 7:00 PM.

A visitation will occur Monday, March 13, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church, 3430 Dover St, Dexter, Michigan 48130. A funeral mass will immediately follow.

A burial will occur Monday, March 13, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 2528 Baker Road, Dexter, MI. All are invited for a time of luncheon and fellowship at St Joseph Catholic Church following the graveside service.
