James Edward Crooks, age 78, passed away October 4, 2024 while in hospice care at the Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti, Michigan after battling Alzheimer's Disease for a number of years. He was born March 16, 1946 in Brookville, Pennsylvania, son of the late John E. and Helen K. [Henry] Crooks. He was raised in Brookville, and was a 1964 graduate of Brookville Area High School, and later a graduate of both Clarion State College, Clarion, PA and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he received his Master's degree in Library Science. The first 15 years of his career were spent at the Medical Library of the U. of M. and the second 15 years were at the Medical Library of the University of California, Irvine.
James was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy Crooks Songer, brother Richard Crooks, a great-great nephew and his life partner Douglas Fuller. He is survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Campbell Crooks and nephews and nieces, Laura (Timothy) Perkins, Douglas (Kim) Crooks, Brenda (David) Fleming, Becky (Michael) Nesbit, Barbara (Ronald) Dempster and Steve (Christy) Songer. Fourteen great-nieces and nephews also survive him. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Brookville, on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Ohl Cemetery, Ohl, Pennsylvania.
