Guy P. Stivers, age 82 of Dexter Michigan passed away on Sunday, July 7. He was born on February 19, 1931 in Ann Arbor Michigan to Guy and Nina (Eschelbach) Stivers. He graduated from Ann Arbor High School and inlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in London for some time but eventually landed in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was during his time in SD that he met his wife of 58 years, Ruth. They married in 1955 and came back to Ann Arbor where they lived until they started their family business in Chelsea. They ran Stivers Restaurant/Bar together for 33 years. Guy had many outside interests. He loved old cars and there is a barn full of them to prove it. He was happiest spending his time playing with his "toys." He also loved flying and air shows were one of his favorite pastimes. Guy was a member of the Dexter American Legion and the Dexter Classic Car Club. He was also a big Michigan Football fan having seen his first game when he was just a kid and then spending 30+ years cheering on the Maize & Blue from the stands with Ruth. He loved to travel and Colorado was one of his favorite destinations but any road trip out west was fine with him. After selling the business and retiring in 1987, Guy and Ruth spent most of the colder months at their Florida home on Siesta Key, coming back to Michigan to spend the Holidays with family and friends. Guy is survived by his daughter Nina and son-in-law Jack Risner, Jack's children Kevin Risner and Michelle Risner, Kevin's son Caden and Michelle's daughter Adler, his niece Kim Stivers, nephews Kurt and Scott Stivers and Scott's children Christina, Matthew and Thomas. Guy had countless friends and family members, everywhere. He seemed to know everyone. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother King Stivers and very recently, his wife Ruth. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday July 12, 2013 at Forest Lawn Cemetary in Dexter, Michigan. A Celebration of life will follow at the Dexter American Legion to honor Guy and Ruth and their time together.
