Dorothy June Bates passed away on August 31, 2012. Daughter of Carl and Ruby (Ott) Bates, she was born in Detroit, MI on June 3, 1918. Dorothy grew up in Dexter and attended Dexter High School and graduated from Michigan State University as well. During WWII she worked at the Willow Run Bomber plant. She was employed by the American Dietetic Association as membership director. After retiring, she moved back to Dexter in 1996 and built a home on the farm where she was raised. Dorothy is survived by her sisters Louise Mann of Ann Arbor, Jeannette Turner of Dexter, Helen Stewart of Bellaire, Carolynn Toney of Denver, and two brothers, Harry (Dorothy) Bates of Dexter and William Bates of Denver. She is also survived by 19 loving nieces and nephews. Dorothy loved to travel the world as she attended Dietetic Conferences from Sydney, Australia to Sao Paulo, Brazil and throughout Europe. She was a long time member of P.E.O, which promotes educational opportunities for women. Dorothy was a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, which is where contributions may be made.
