Colleen grew up in Mason, Michigan, where she graduated from Mason High School. She was adopted as a child by her loving family, Henry and Ruth Shaft of Michigan, who provided her with a home full of love and support.
Colleen earned her RN designation from Henry Ford School of Nursing and dedicated much of her career to serving as a school nurse in Brighton Michigan, schools. After retiring, she moved to Englewood Florida, where she continued to work as a nurse into her 80s for Dr. Villotti.
On November 26, 1949, Colleen married the love of her life, Leonard Wurster, in Dearborn, Michigan. Together, they had three children: Douglas, Ruthann and Scott, all of whom preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, Leonard Wurster. Also preceding her in death, grandson Boyd Farr and great-granddaughter Taylor Farr.
A deeply faithful woman, Colleen was an active member of the Baptist faith in both Michigan and Florida. Her church family was very important to her, and in her later years, she graduated from Liberty Bible College, further strengthening her commitment to her faith.
Colleen was known for her fierce independence and unwavering strength. She will be remembered for her compassion, her devotion to her faith, and the kindness she showed to everyone around her. The family is grateful to the staff at Brookdale Independent Living in Brighton Michigan and her home care team for their compassionate care in her final days.
She is survived by her grandchildren Brian Farr, Machelle Farr, Kacie Farrell and Adam Wurster. Son-in-law Mike Lockwood and daughter-in-law Kaye Wurster. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Cassandra Farr, Boyd Farr Jr., Kimberly Hyche and Clara Farrell.
Colleen will be laid to rest next to her husband, Leonard Wurster, at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, Florida.
