Barbara Irene Baldus passed away peacefully at her home on June 17, 2014 at the age of 81. She was born June 7, 1933. She graduated from Dexter High School in the class of 51. She married William (Bill) Baldus on September 20, 1952. Bill preceded her in death after 46 years of marriage in 1999.
Together they raised three children on their farm in Webster Township; Dan (Nancy) Baldus of Whitmore Lake, Karen (Dave) Stoneman of Merrill and Richard (Nancy) Baldus of Howell. She also has nine grandchildren; Scott, Craig and Amy Baldus, Cole (Jennifer), Bart and Dirk Stoneman and Nicholas, Emma and Jackie Baldus and 2 great grandchildren, Greyson and Olivia Stoneman. Barb is also survived by her sister, Joyce Waggoner and brother -in- law David (Frances) Baldus. Besides her husband Bill, Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Irene Knope, her brother Floyd & Jan Knope and brother- in-law Don and Wana Baldus. Barb had a very active lifestyle, traveling, volunteering and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Barb worked as a para-pro for the Dexter Community Schools for over 30 years, helping many children at the Bates and Cornerstone schools. Barb was always on the go, she was a lifetime and active member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ, a 4-H leader for Blue Ribbon Livestock club for over 50 years, and a member of the senior center and exercise group. She also enjoyed bowling, quilting, and rug-hooking. Her favorite activity was watching her grandchildren show livestock at the fair or participate in sports. She loved to travel, loved life and loved to be with her family and many friends. She will be dearly missed.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 2:00 -8:00 at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Dexter and on Monday from 9:00 until time of service at 11:00 at St. Andrews United Church of Christ. Burial will follow the service at St. Andrews Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to St. Andrews United Church of Christ.
