Stephanie Smith, age 76, passed away on July 13, 2024. She was born in Detroit to Robert and Isabelle "Demi" (Zoph) Smith on May 29, 1948. She spent her childhood in Detroit and later was a graduate of Lansing Community College and Michigan State University. Following a nursing career, she retired to spend time with friends, family, and her beloved "fur babies", as she affectionately called her dogs. She was a strong advocate for animal rights and their good care.
She was predeceased by her parents and cousins, Charles and Pat Hyatt and Martin Hyatt. She is survived by cousins Laurie (Chuck) Baum of Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, Dr. Marlene (Phil) Sefton, of Chicago Illinois, Bill (Pam) Hyatt of Jupiter, Florida, and Mrs. Martin (Sarah) Hyatt of Charleston, South Carolina, Richard Overholt of West Branch, Mi., John Overholt of Lansing, Mi., and Dess and Nadia Johnson of Grand Ledge, Mi. She is also survived by special friends, Margaret Sweetland, of Grand Ledge, Mi., Tony and Judy Terbrack of Lansing, Mi., Marie Chilman of Ishpeming Mi., Tamra Cornwell of Okemos, Mi., and Pamela Bellon of East Lansing, Mi. Tamra and Pamela were loving caretakers of several years and deeply appreciated by her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service for Stephanie will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1:00 PM with a visitation one hour prior at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E Washington, DeWitt, MI 48820. Interment to follow at DeWitt City Cemetery.
